Download Help

Why Download?

mcm's audio download makes accessing broadcast audio easier than ever.  Files can be played, shared, or copied on to your play-out platform instantly.

What is mp3?

mp3 (mpeg Layer-3) compresses the original audio source with very little loss in audio quality.  All mp3 files are set at 320Kb to maintain audio integrity.  The higher the bit rate, the higher the quality.

How long will it take to download mp3 files?

This will be determined by the file size and the speed of your internet connection.  A typical 30 second commercial (approximately 1Mb) will take about 1-2 minutes to download using an ISDN connection or even faster over cable or ADSL depending on your internet speed.

How do I play back an mp3?

In order to playback mp3 files on your computer you will need to have an mp3 compatible player installed.  Most computers will already have this software (the latest versions of Windows and Mac OS come with this as standard).  It is recommended that you download the file to your local PC first before playing.

How do I download mp3 files?

Right-click the Title/Description and choose 'copy'.  Paste file in appropriate folder on your PC.  A download box will appear showing the status until the download is complete.

Why can't I access the files to download?

All our audio is stored on an FTP server.  Ensure that your internet browser is set to access FTP.

(NOTE: Users with older operating systems will need to use additional software - see below)

NT/ME/2000/XP

Enable FTP access on your Internet Browser.

1) Click on 'Tools - Internet Options - Advanced' tab

2) Check the tick box 'Enable Folder View for FTP sites'

    See Image 1

3) Check the tick box 'Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)' and click 'Ok'

    See Image 2

4) Click on 'Tools - Internet Options - Security' tab

5) Select 'Internet' from web content zones

6) Click on 'Custom Level' button

7) Scroll to bottom of list and ensure that 'Logon-prompt for username and password' is selected and click 'Ok'.

    See Image 3

8) Restart Internet Explorer

If you still experience problems, try this link ftp://ftp1.mcmentertainment.com

I have Windows 95/98 operating system and can't access audio.

Windows 95/98 operating systems with Microsoft Internet Explorer are unable to see FTP folders therefore users will need to either install another Browser e.g. Firefox or use additional FTP client software for access.

Option 1: Install Opera Internet Browser

We have provided another Internet Browser called 'Opera' which you can download and install.  It will ask you for a Username and Password.  Use the one we have provided for you.

Click here to download Opera Internet Browser

Option 2: Install Mozilla Firefox Internet Browser

First download a new Internet Browser called 'Mozilla Firefox'.

1) Select 'Save' to download to your computer

2) Once you have downloaded the program, install it

3) Agree to the License Terms

4) Select 'Standard' installation

5) Un-check 'Use Firefox start as my home page'

6) Un-check 'Launch Mozilla Firefox'

7) Click on 'Finish'

Now 'Run' Firefox.

As this is the first time you have run it, it will ask if you want to 'Import Options'.

Select 'Don't import anything' Next.

Now it will ask if you want to make Firefox your Default Browser.

Un-check 'Always perform this check' and select 'No'.

Firefox Internet Browser is now open.

We now need to install an Extension that will allow you to access FTP to our site.

Click this link to take you to the 'fireFTP - Firefox Extension'.

Now click on 'Install Now' on the site.

Once this is installed you need to close and restart Firefox.

From Firefox click on 'Tools - FireFTP'.

(NOTE: You will only be allowed access to the shows you subscribe to)

Can I automate the download of mp3s?

We have developed a simple script that allows you to download the audio files you need, scheduled at a time to suit you.

(NOTE: If you wish to download more than one program, it is necessary to run a script for each program)

Minimum Requirements

Windows NT4 or better

Scheduler (to schedule the downloads)

Instructions

1) Make a folder on your computer's C: Drive called 'Shows' e.g. C:\Shows

2) Inside this folder create folders for each of the show you take.  This is the location the files will be downloaded.

    e.g. C:\Shows\take40

           C:\Shows\thehothits

3) Now make a folder to keep the script files in e.g. C:\Scripts

4) Create a NEW file called 'mcm_take40.bat' in the folder C:\Scripts

This will be used to download the Take 40 show.

5) Inside the file 'mcm_take40.bat' copy the following lines

# Change into the Take40 folder where the files will be downloaded to: cd C:\Shows\take40

# Connect to the mcm FTP server and use the script ftp_take40.txt file to download the show

ftp -s:C:\Scripts\ftp_take40.txt ftp1.mcmentertainment.com

Save the changes.

6) Create another file in the C:\Scripts folder called 'ftp_take40.txt'

Inside this file copy the following lines:

Username 'use your current username that you use for our website'

Password 'use your current username that you use for our website'

ascii

cd take40

prompt off

mget *.mp3

quit

Save the changes.  This file will copy all mp3 files from the take40 folder.

7) You are now ready to Schedule the download.  The Scheduler only needs to 'Run' the file  'mcm_take40.bat', it will do the rest.  Set the scheduler to run the file when it suits you e.g. overnight so it will be available in the morning.

(NOTE: Repeat the above steps for all other mcm programs.  Follow the steps above and change the show names to suit)

Can I download an audio converter?

Command Line Audio Converter (demo only):

AliveMedia Converter

If you like the program you will need to purchase it yourself.

(NOTE: The demo version will ask you to click on 'Demo' while you test out the automated script)

Download a script that will take me directly to the FTP server:

Here is a script that you can download and run to go directly to the ftp folder.

It will then ask for your login details.

Click on this to download the mcm ftp script.

Mac Users:- Free FTP Client software
